Según pude leer en varias páginas este canción se ha inspirado tanto en un pintura de Frida Kahlo (del mismo título "Lo que vi en el agua o lo que el agua me dio") como en la muerte de la escritora Virginia Woolf, quién se ahogó en el río Ouse tras llenar los bolsillos de su abrigo de piedras.
